Gymnastics Teaches Our Kids To Be Brave
“Speaking of nudging kids. Do you remember when you were a kid and then trying something that you weren’t very good at and then just completely quitting?” Raz “Yes.” Saujani “What was it?” Raz “Gymnastics.” Saujani “What happened.” Raz “I couldn’t do a cartwheel. And then I just stopped doing it.” Saujani I was on a long road trip a few months back, binging on podcasts, and the Ted Radio Hour Nudge with Guy Raz and Reshma Saujani, founder of Girls Who Code, captivated my attention. … [Read more...]
Don’t Get Discouraged!
To the parent in the Parent/Tot Gymnastics Class. If I could tell you one thing it would be “Don’t Get Discouraged!” I often watch the gym during classes, and in almost every parent/tot class I see a parent who looks stressed, tired, and possibly discouraged. I LOVE GYMNASTICS! It is in my blood, and it will never leave me. After years competing and coaching I don’t think there is a way I could not be in love. I love everything about it. I love … [Read more...]
Finding my way back
My favorite event in gymnastics has always been balance beam. I am not sure why I loved it more, was it the risk or reward. There is something about standing on a 4 inch piece of wood, counting to three, and taking a deep breath when you realize you did it. You didn’t fall, you’re still on the beam, what fear you had quickly subsides, and all your hard work has paid off. I have had this feeling daily for well over a year when I decided to quit my long time career. The butterflies, the nerves, … [Read more...]
